Carer visa subclass 116 is a permanent visa granted to relatives outside Australia that are able to provide ongoing substantial care for their sponsoring relative in Australia, who needs support due to permanent medical conditions. You can include members of the family unit in your application when you apply. 

 

  • You must be outside Australia when you apply and when your visa is granted.
  • The application for this visa is assessed in 2 stages: Check eligibility and either add the application to the queue or refuse it or Continue assessing the application when a place becomes available and decide. Don’t arrange to move to Australia until the visa is granted.
  • You must be sponsored by an eligible and approved sponsor.
  • Be a career. Among other things, you must be willing and able to provide ongoing substantial care and support for your sponsoring relative or the family member who lives with them. To show this, you should fully understand your sponsor’s medical condition and what their care needs are.
  • The Applicant and any family members applying for the visa must meet immigration health and character requirements.
  • This visa might not be granted if it is not in the best interests of an applicant under 18.

Carer visa subclass 836 is a permanent visa granted to relatives that are currently in Australia providing ongoing substantial care for their sponsoring relative or their relative’s family member who lives with them; who needs support due to permanent medical conditions and does not have reasonable access to care options in Australia. You can include members of the family unit in your application when you apply.

Carer visa subclass 836 is a permanent visa granted to relatives that are currently in Australia providing ongoing substantial care for their sponsoring relative or their relative’s family member who lives with them; who needs support due to permanent medical conditions and does not have reasonable access to care options in Australia. You can include members of the family unit in your application when you apply. 

  • You must be in Australia when you apply and when your visa is granted.
  • The application for this visa is assessed in 2 stages: Check eligibility and either add the application to the queue or refuse it or Continue assessing the application when a place becomes available and decide. Don’t arrange to move to Australia until the visa is granted.
  • Be a career. Among other things, you must be willing and able to provide ongoing substantial care and support for your sponsoring relative or the family member who lives with them. To show this, you should fully understand your sponsor’s medical condition and what their care needs are.
  • You must be sponsored by an eligible and approved sponsor.
  • Hold or have held a substantive visa. You must: hold any substantive visa, or have held any substantive visa except a Transit visa subclass 771 and made a valid application for a subclass 836 visa within a certain time
  • Not have had a visa cancelled or a previous application refused. You might not be granted this visa if you have had a visa cancelled or refused while you were in Australia. 
  • The Applicant and any family members applying for the visa must meet immigration health and character requirements.
  • This visa might not be granted if it is not in the best interests of an applicant under 18.

New Zealand Citizen Family Relationship visa subclass 461

New Zealand Citizen Family Relationship visa subclass 461 is a temporary visa that allows a person who is not a New Zealand citizen to live in Australia with a family member who is a New Zealand citizen, but not an Eligible New Zealand Citizen and either holds a Special Category visa (subclass 444) and is living in Australia. You can stay in Australia for 5 years; this visa starts on the date it is granted.

After this visa finish and if you still meet the criteria, you can apply for another New Zealand Citizen Family Relationship (Temporary) visa (subclass 461) or ask us for more visas options that you might be eligible for.

New Zealand Citizen Family Relationship visa subclass 461

New Zealand Citizen Family Relationship visa subclass 461 is a temporary visa that allows a person who is not a New Zealand citizen to live in Australia with a family member who is a New Zealand citizen, but not an Eligible New Zealand Citizen and either holds a Special Category visa (subclass 444) and is living in Australia. You can stay in Australia for 5 years; this visa starts on the date it is granted.

After this visa finish and if you still meet the criteria, you can apply for another New Zealand Citizen Family Relationship (Temporary) visa (subclass 461) or ask us for more visas options that you might be eligible for.

  • You can be in or outside Australia when you apply for the visa but not in immigration clearance. If you apply in Australia, you must be in Australia for the grant of this visa. If you apply outside Australia, you must be outside Australia for the grant of this visa.
  • Relationship to a New Zealand citizen. You might be able to get this visa if:
  • you are not a New Zealand citizen
  • your New Zealand citizen family member is not an eligible New Zealand citizen
  • you are one of the members of the family unit of a New Zealand citizen
  • your New Zealand citizen family member is living in Australia on a Special Category visa (subclass 444) or will be travelling with you to Australia and should be granted a Special Category visa (subclass 444) on arrival.
  • If you are offshore, you can apply for the subclass 461 visa without needing to hold another type of visa first. If you are onshore you need to hold a substantive visa when you lodge your application. If you do not hold a substantive visa you will need show you do not hold a visa because of factors beyond your control and there are compelling reasons to grant you a subclass 461. Your New Zealand family member must have (or be eligible for) a Special Category visa (subclass 444). New Zealand citizens are not automatically granted a 444 visa.
  • You must maintain adequate health cover for the whole of your stay if you are granted this visa. We recommend you take out health insurance to cover any unforeseen medical treatment you might need in Australia. Some countries have a reciprocal healthcare agreement with Australia.
  • You might not be granted this visa if you have had a visa cancelled or refused while you were in Australia. 
  • The Applicant and any family members applying for the visa must meet immigration health and character requirements.
  • This visa might not be granted if it is not in the best interests of an applicant under 18.

Remaining Relative visas

Remaining Relative permanent visas are for those whose only near relatives are living in Australia. You can include members of the family unit in your application when you apply. You should include details of all your family members, whether they are migrating or not, in the application form. There are two visa subclasses depending where you are applying from:

Remaining Relative visa subclass 115 (Offshore): is a permanent visa for those whose live outside Australia and who only near relatives are living in Australia.

Remaining Relative visa subclass 835 (Onshore): is a permanent visa for those whose live in Australia and who only near relatives are living in Australia.

Remaining Relative visa subclass 115 (Offshore): is a permanent visa for those whose live outside Australia and who only near relatives are living in Australia.

Remaining Relative visa subclass 835 (Onshore): is a permanent visa for those whose live in Australia and who only near relatives are living in Australia.

  • If you apply in Australia, you must be in Australia for the grant of this visa. If you apply outside Australia, you must be outside Australia for the grant of this visa.
  • The application for this visa is assessed in 2 stages: Check eligibility and either add the application to the queue or refuse it and Continue assessing the application when a place becomes available and decide. Don’t arrange to move to Australia until the visa is granted.
  • You must be sponsored by an eligible and approved parent or step-parent, sibling or step-sibling, or an eligible partner of your relative.
  • Not have other near relatives. This visa will not be granted if you or your partner have a near relative who usually live outside Australia, or you or your partner have a near relative who live in Australia on a temporary visa including bridging visas.
  • You must be able to obtain an assurance of support. The assurance is for you and any family members who come to Australia with you on this visa.
  • You might not be granted this visa if you have had a visa cancelled or refused while you were in Australia. 
  • The Applicant and any family members applying for the visa must meet immigration health and character requirements.
  • This visa might not be granted if it is not in the best interests of an applicant under 18.
