Skilled Nominated Visa (subclass 190)

A permanent visa for skilled workers nominated by an Australian state or territory government. Nomination adds 5 points to your score and opens a wider range of occupations.

What Is the Subclass 190 Visa?

The Subclass 190 is a permanent residence visa for skilled workers who have secured a nomination from an Australian state or territory government. Receiving a nomination adds 5 points to your points test score, which can make a genuine difference to your chances of receiving an invitation through SkillSelect.

This visa also opens the door to a broader range of eligible occupations — including certain roles listed on the Short-term Skilled Occupations List (STSOL) that are not available under the independent 189 stream. Every state and territory manages its own nomination process, with separate occupation lists, eligibility criteria and conditions that are updated regularly throughout the year.

Who Can Apply?

State Nomination — What You Need to Know

State and territory nomination is not a one-size-fits-all process. Each jurisdiction sets its own rules, priorities and conditions — and these can change at any time.

  • Occupation lists and available nomination places are updated frequently and without much notice
  • Certain states require you to live and work there for a period after the visa is granted
  • Some states ask for evidence of a genuine connection to the state or a local job offer before nominating you
  • High-demand states like New South Wales and Victoria can be highly competitive with limited spots
  • Smaller states and territories may offer more accessible pathways for the same occupation

Our approach: We assess your occupation and profile across all state and territory nomination lists at the same time — not just your preferred state. This means we can identify the fastest and most achievable nomination pathway available to you, and advise on the conditions attached before you commit to anything.
